The BedRobber Fly
The BedRobber is a simple tie. It rides hook down and can be modified to use smaller lead eyes for some weight if needed.

Montana
In the past couple years, I’ve been able to break out of that routine and venture farther north into Montana…and I’m glad I have.

Utah…
After making the long drive and meeting up with friends in Kanab, we made it into camp at dark. The next morning we packed up and started humping the boats down the trail. Just over the first rise a couple hundred yards from camp we were greeted by a rather large black bear that jumped out of the brush and onto the trail.

Switching Gears..
It’s all about change. I think that’s why I fish. It’s the never ending learning curve.

The HammerHead
This creation is the product of a gurgler modification project I undertook awhile back. I spent the better part of the topwater season...

How to Catch a Bass…Part 3
I’ve seen some truly expert stillwater trout guys get completely baffled during an all out bite simply because they’re not fishing the water correctly. Bass are a completely different animal than the trout that we all have studied so religiously and to put it simply, they act almost nothing like a trout.

Fixing the Gurgler
The Gurgler was invented by the late fly tier Jack Gartside and is one of those all-around useful patterns than will catch everything from panfish to tarpon. It’s success is almost certainly of the unique “gurgling” style of action that attracts fish and it has quickly become one of the most effect topwater patterns in recent history.

How to Catch a Bass…Part 2
If you’re a full time trout guy that’s just starting to get into the bass game, I hate to break it to you, but you need new gear. I know we’re all just waiting for an excuse to go shopping for new equipment, and this is it.

Northern AZ
Northern AZ has a surprisingly good trout population. Mostly lakes but plenty of small streams with plenty of brown trout populations. This trip was a short one as the goal was to get across the imaginary line that would require a new license. So I hit one of the high country lakes at 9000’ for a one nighter.

The creation of the MOAD
The obsession with creating the ultimate crawdad began one day while sitting on a high boulder overlooking a crystal clear pool of a high country lake in AZ.

Articulated Streamers in Still Waters
I first experimented with articulation techniques way back when the movie Ghostbusters was still in the theaters. I got the idea after I saw a damsel fly nymph pattern in a magazine that had an articulated tail made of marabou. It used a bare hook shank connected with some soft monofilament. Looked like a genius idea.
